  • vRay IES lights - shadow problem

    Hello,

I'm facing a weird and serious problem here, on a tight deadline ! please check the enclosed rendering ... apparently, vRay IES lights shadows produce some banding / hard edges shadows ! have you guys ever got this problem ? is there a way to solve that, please ?

Thanks a lot for any help !

    Regards.

Have you tried other IES light files ??? The one you have may be currupt/faulty.
There seems to be a lot of variation in how IES files are written but I have never seen issues like this before.

      Hello,

Thanks for your suggestion. I've tested the same IES file, but in a simple scene (only light / cylinder / plane), and I don't get the problem ... must be something in the scene but I haven't found yet.

      Thanks again.

You can try to set cutoff to 0 instead of 0,001

Thks Nils, I'll try that too but won't that have a negative impact on rendertime ?

I think it does. Vlado probably has the right answer for this.

              Ok

But once again, it's really weird: when I try this exact same IES light in a simple scene, with plane and cylinder - it's perfect. Only in "full" scenes with many lights, I get this behavior

              Thanks again for your suggestion
