  • Vray RT gpu

Hi, I just got vray 2 this week, and tried vray rt, work well in cpu mode but I cant get nothing in gpu mode, wich I saw is a lot faster, heres my computer specs:

    Processor:intel Xeon X5570 @ 2.93Ghz (2 processor)
    Ram:12 GB
    GRaphic card NVIDIA Quadro 4000
    Windows 7 64 bit

    Max design 2011
    Vray 2

Is it a driver issue for my card? I have the Nvidia performance driver for max, or card is already too old?

I had a Ati8700 firegl pro, wich they change for the nvidia so I can get all the new features with nvidia card, but I dont get the new feature.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Have you selected the device?

Start > AllPrograms > ChaosGroup > V-Ray RT Adv for 3ds Max 2011 for x64 > Select OpenCL devices for V-Ray RT GPU

Also, is your file too huge?
VrayRT GPU does not kick in when your file is too huge. Or shall I say bigger than what yourcard can take.

Oh, did nt know I had to start and select the devices for RT GPU, I was doing right inside max, selecting RT for the activeshade, then activating the active shade, then you get the V-Ray rt tab in the render window in wich when the activeshade is closed you can switch engine between cpu and gpu.

But even when I try to select the devices in the start menu, chaos group, vray rt, I get the window error: ocldeviceselect.exe has stop working.....

      What can I do?

Did you try updating the drivers?

        Best regards,

Can you take a look at the V-Ray RT render server window and check for any errors there?

              Best regards,
              Vlado

No error on the V-Ray RT render server, everything seems to load correctly, Starting the select open cl devices, I get an error tho, OpenCl.dll is missing, so I think I have a driver mess between my previous card the Ati fire gl pro 8700 and the nvidia they just installed in my computer, Ill try to figure it out then I ll come back with the result,

Thx again for the help & support.

Did you uninstall any ATI stuff first? If you leave the ATI drivers and GPU computing SDK kit, the system may still try to load the incorrect OpenCL.dll file which won't work.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

Ok drivers problem is solved! Everything was remove and the correct drivers was reinstall.

Now I have a couple of question. Running in cpu mode is all good, quite slow but its running, simple scene with a plane and a teapot with a vraylight and a vraycam, switching in gpu mode I get problem, supposed to be faster from what I understand and what I saw, on the web and at the presentation here in Montreal wich I was! (By the way wich was short but very cool!) So getting in gpu mode the first time is very long to load, then I get the message: Unsupported GI disabled and all I see is my teapot completetly white and no reflection on the plane floor, I mean its worst then in the viewport itself, so maybe I m doing something wrong or my video card is really bad.....

Seems like a really nice feature, and I wish I can use it correctly, the only use I can see for now is to setup shader without going in render wich could be very useful for complex shader unless we cant see a whole bunch of material\map, Ill be going through the documentation coming with vray RT, Thx for the help & support.
