  • Displacement through proxy object

    Hi guys,
    i am having problems doing displacement through proxy object.
    i first tried applying vray displacement modifier in the modifier stack and then converting to proxy.....doesnt work
    then
    i applied displacement through materail editors displacement map slot...
    no joy

    any ideas how to do a displacement through proxy?

    surely there must be a way...

    any tips are highly appreciated!!!

    I was under the impression that you can't; once it's a proxy you can't do anything to the base mesh? Unless you want to bake the displacement into the mesh before you create the proxy?

      Sure but why it cant be applied through the vray material and its displacement slot?? Thats just displacement through material... No modifier... Its weird

        the "displace through material" is doing exactly the same thing as the modifier, just wrapped in a different interface, so there is no reason why it should work if the modifier doesnt.

        which by the way, it doesnt.

          you want to displace, take advantage of the proxy its self. before proxying, subdivide the hell out of it, till max is about to fall over, displace using the max displace modifier, then export as a proxy.

            Martas, kdyz pouzijes displacement modifier, ne vraydisplacement, tak to funguje. Treba ti to bude stacit. Teda alespon s pouzitim forest pack pro neni problem.

              Cau jirko, myslis jako pouzit displacement modifier na mesh a pak cele nekolapsnute prevest na proxy??? Nebo jak? Uz jsem z tohl volaky zmeteny

                  No neznam presne zamer, jen pokud potrebujes klonovat objekt, ktery ma displacement mapu, tak to nejde. Pouzivam forest pack pro a nefunguje to. Ale pokud misto vraydisplacement modifikatoru pouziju jen displace modifikator, tak to slape. Samozrejme nesmim pouzit proxy objekty, ktere u forest packu pro stejne pouzivat nemusis, poradi si i s normalnima.

                  I am using displace modifier instead of vray displacement and it works great with forest pack pro. Dont use proxy but standard objects and it will be fine in forest pack, dont know what you are using.

                    i ve baked the max displacement to the geometry in the end and worked with proxies from then...
                    thanks for the help guys...

                    however...i still think it woudl be very usefull for the vray proxy to remember the vray displacement settings somehow ))
