    Hi Folks,

I've decided to post on here as I'm at my wits end and I'm desperate to find a solution.

I've got an aircraft interior animation to render out but no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get rid of those dreaded white spots that seem to cause many a V-Ray user so much trouble. I didn't notice it at first because I'm not getting the problem with stills. It's only happening in animations. Every frame, the spots move to a different place, causing horrendous flickering in the animation, making it unusable.

I've been trying to figure it out all weekend and have run out of ideas. I've attached some stills showing the problem, along with my render settings in the hope someone out there can help.

Any & all suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

    Kind regards to all,

    Andy

It looks like reflective GI caustics, but you don't have those on. I'd try to turn off refractive caustics anyway.
Maybe then turning off visible to GI from window objects also, so you would still get GI ambient light in.

Thanks Lasse, I'll try that now. Unfortunately, as the problem is only evident in animations, it'll take a while before I can tell if it works.

hehe.. there is a solidrocks setup if ever i saw one! quite hard to troubleshoot cos it uses such strange settings for everything.

its very strange if you are using pre-calculated imap and lightcache files that the spots are moving around every frame, but id try turning off "use lightcache for glossy rays" since if the gi is static, it can only be the glossy refs that are changing every frame. maybe, or as Lasse says, turn off refractive caustics.. -or, exclude your glass from GI.

The HSph Subdivs seem very low to me. I don't ever go lower than the default (which is 50 or 60 isn't it?)...only higher if a detailed scene with lower than average levels of lighting. Only other things I can think of: your vray sun (if you have one) - is it set to be visible or invisible? Try making it invisible. Also, do you have any self illuminating objects with vraylight materials on them (or high levels of output)? If so, put a wrapper on them and tell them not to generate GI.
          Kind Regards,

            Oops, rumbled!

Thanks to you all for your suggestions, they're very much appreciated. I'm just waiting for the results of a test using Lasse's suggestions. I'll also try your lightcache tip super gnu.

tricky; yes I do have some self illuminating objects in the scene. I have a VRay light material on the lights in the ceiling, so I'll be sure to try out your suggestion. The scene was modelled & set up by another artist, who used an HDRI at 15 multiplications and the interior lights on 12. I changed the light settings down to 1.0 and replaced the exterior set up with a VRay sky & Sun set up, but was still getting the same problem. The Sun isn't set to be invisible, so I'll try that too.

Again, thanks to you all for your help. Maybe I won't lose my job now

So far so good . I used Lasse's suggestions on a version of the scene with just the cabin and foreground chairs in and it looks good. I'm now going to try it on the full scene, along with an invisible Sun and see what happens...
