  • max.vray preset in default/custom UI switcher

    hi!

i just wanted to point out that using the max+vray preset of the default/custom UI switcher in max design 2012 leads to missing/greyed out icons of the snap toolbar. i use the modular toolbar layout most of the time, with it´s extra snap toolbar, but it also happens with the standard icon layout and it´s snap extra icons... they get greyed out and have a missing:blabla mouseover if i hover over them after applying the max+vray preset.

this is kind of reproduceible as it happened also to a colleague of mine when i pointed the problem out to him and he tried it on his machine, so maybe this is an error?

as soon as i switch back to, for example, the max standard UI defaults or any other preset the icons reappear mysteriously... in some cases i had to delete the 3dsmax.ini and change the preset to get the icons running again.

    best regards,

    christoph.

Ok then; we probably need to re-generate the defaults file; will post it here when it is done.

          Hi,
We have fixed the MAX.vary preset, now the snap toolbar is displayed properly.
I have noticed that sometimes 3ds Max does not update it's default preset, once it is selected, so just switching to some other preset and then switch back may not work. In that case it would be best to remove the cached preset and on the next start 3ds Max will update it. The usual path is something like: "C:\Users\sasho\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\ 2012 - 64bit\enu\defaults\MAX.vray".

A version with the bug fix can be provided upon request to vlado@chaosgroup.com.

          Best regards,
          Aleksandar

I have noticed this too, but also the light lister and all the vray tools and objects have disapeard from the menus. The only way I can get them back is to reinstall vray. Were the menu's resolved with the bug fix too?

              Hi,
It seems that 3ds Max 2012 wipes out the changes to the menus (and makes the change permanent in contrast to Max 2010) when switching custom UI presets. There is maxscript function that registers the V-Ray items in the menus. Just execute updateVRayMenus() in the maxscript listener and the menus should be there again.

              Best regards,
              Alexander
