This might be more of a question than a problem but I ran into something unexpected today. I had always assumed that rendering from a saved irradiance map would always be faster than rendering and calculating the map. Turns out this isn't the case. I have a scene that makes heavy use of proxied trees. To do the irradiance map and render it takes about 4.5 minutes. To then save that map out and switch it to from file, the render takes 5.5 minutes. Why is it slower to use a saved map, when its the exact same information?
