  • Refractive object in front of Carpaint

I'm making raindrops on a car atm and for some reason refractive objects in front of the carpaint doesn't look right. I have tried using a standard material with full refract and 1.01 IOR, and it does not refract the carpaint as it should. It looks as if it only refracts the diffuse color of the carpaint and not the flakes and coat layer.

This is a huge problem for us atm.

Nope. But I'll see if I can reconstruct it in another scene tomorrow

Was not hard to recreate. New scene, two spheres and one HDRI. A large sphere with a default vray carpaint material and in front of that one is a smaller sphere with default vray material 255 refract and 1.01 IOR. It only refracts the diffuse color of the carpaint material...

Link didn't work. But your image is showing the problem clearly.

Hm, for the moment the car paint material always uses the global reflection/refraction depth specified in the V-Ray Global switches rollout; the default value for this is 2 - set it to something higher and it will be fine (i.e. enable Max. depth for a moment, set it to e.g. 5, and then turn it off again).

I've made a note to include a separate reflection depth control for the car paint material.

            Best regards,
            Vlado

It doesn't work. Nothing changes when I set the Max depth to 5 or 10. :/
