  • Refraction when using Water level

I can't get refraction to work proparly when using water lever in a displacement modifier. May it be that water level doesn't cap the geometry?

I have read about ppl using this when making water drops on bottles, so it should work.. has anyone tried this?

Found the problem. The drops are refracting the background, behind the object.. strange..

I just copy the object and put a displacement modifier with a water drop texture and water level on it. So it should refract the object it was copied from, since it's in the same position and the displacement goes outwards....

Hmm, I tried the same thing in a dummyscene, and then it worked.
First image is of two planes in the same position. One of them with a displacementmap and water level on.
The second image shows the displaced plane with a fully refractive material and Red color as refractive override color in the render settings. It looks as it should.
The problem is that when I do this on my cad object, the water drops on top of the object refracts the background, and not the underlying plane... And there are alot of objects behind the cad object as well, and those are not refracted either..

Here is the actuall render. You can see the red drops in the top left. It's a copy of the object with a displacement map and water level on. The drops are red because they refract the background - Override refraction slot in the render settings. There are alot of objects behind this one, so even if it doesn't refract the object that it was copied from, it should refract the other ones and not the background...

          Just sort of guessing here...

Is it possible the objects have "visible to reflections/refractions" unchecked? Maybe vray properties? Exit color for the material is red maybe?

Could you give the drops their own background? Not sure if the environment override allows material environment overrides.

          Normals inside out?

Nope, thats all as it should be.

Don't know if I can give the drops a separate background, but if I could it wouldn't help much

            Normals are ok.
