  • IR Splotches

    Hi,

I am rendering a set of glass tiles which are against a coloured back graphic using IR + LC. On some colours the IR map is OK but on some colours the splotches are far more visible. My preset is set to high and the HSph. subdivs are 130 and the Interp. samples are 30, I feel any higher on the Interp. samples and I will start to loose GI detail. Light cache subdivisions are 1000.

How high is too high on the HSph. subdivs? Should I go higher? Also perhaps try min rate -3 max rate 1 on the very high setting? I am rendering 800 x 800 btw. Shadow subdivs are 32. I just cant seem to shake off these splotches on the glass.

I fear that I may have to result to brute force + Light cache.

    Cheers!

I'm not sure, but problem might be in your lights setup, what do you use and what kind of shadow? For 800 x 800 high preset should be more than enough.

what do you have your adaptive amount set to? i know 1 or very close can cause the imap to take too few initial samples, causing blotchies irrespective of subdivs. id say the gi settings should be ok (not having seen the scene) -also do you have refractive gi caustics turned on? its on by default.

Hi, adaptive amount is 0.85 and refractive GI caustics are on. I put the HSph. subdivs to 150 and it seems to be OK. Render times are a little high though I think at 1 hour for a 800x800. Using a Q6600 and 8GB RAM. The scene is a close up of glass tiles with a sink in front of it. Using 3 Vray plane lights and no other geometry in the scene.
