  • baking objects with vray

    Hallo together,
I try to produce a architectural realtime walkthrough with max+vray+unity.
When I bake my objects I have some problems because I have to acknowledge that Im not very familiar with baking stuff.

I only want to bake a light map with vray render elements, but the result is not as I expected.
At first I choose my objects to bake and press 0 for the Render to texture window.
Then I add the VrayLightingMap in the Output segment. I choose jpg as file format and let max automatically unwrap my object in channel 3.
Now everything works fine except of the fact that the rendered image is colored with texture colors instead of only light colors.
My second problem is that I wanted to enlight my model with sun and sky but vray seems to ignore my color mapping settings.

At last I managed it with assigning a grey material to all objects (except off glass) and turning my sun down while using a linear exposure.

    What did I wrong?
Is there another further baking tut except of the http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150S...king_part1.htm ?

    Tank you for all aid,
    best regards,
    Stefan

You need to use the appropriate render elements for this, e.g. raw lighting/raw gi/raw total lighting.

        Hi Vlado.
        nice to read you.
Could you explain what are the different render elements for:
        VrayLightingMap
        VrayTotallightingMap
        VrayRawLightingMap
        VrayRawTotalLightingMap

Does the exposure work with baking elements?
        Thank you very much.
        Best regards,
        Stefan

VrayLightingMap is just the direct diffuse surface lighting (no GI), with any diffuse textures included
VrayTotallightingMap is the direct+indirect surface lighting, with diffuse textures included
VrayRawLightingMap is the direct diffuse surface lighting without the textures
VrayRawTotalLightingMap is the direct+indirect surface lighting without the textures

Does the exposure work with baking elements?
There is a checkbox "Apply color mapping" in the RTT dialog when you select one of the V-Ray elements - the default is off, but you might have to turn it on.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

            Hi Vlado,
            thank you for your explanation.
Now I know I choosed the wrong render element.
But the "Apply color mapping" is activ by default I have seen.
Perhaps I did something wrong... Thanks a lot.
            Best regards,
            Stefan

It could be For some elements it is on, for some it is off by default.
