  • Neverending DR problems...

I am struggling with DR missing buckets again and was hoping for some advice. I use alot of plants (both as Xrefs and as Proxies). Maybe hundreds of them in a scene and some of the individual plants may be up to 100mb.

I solved some issues by increasing the Dynamic Memory Limit on my workstation. But my question is how do I increase it on the render slaves? I installed Max as a trial on the render slaves and since the trial is up, I cannot load Max on the slaves to increase the memory limit? Or does that not matter becuase the slaves get the memory setting from the main file? Or is it set via the INI file?

Also, have you ever seen not only missing buckets but also misplaced buckets? It looks like some render slaves rendered buckets in the wrong location (above the cherry)? See image below....

Thanks alot for any help. Its my mission in life to get DR to work reliably. But maybe I should accept phantom and sometimes unrepeatable problems?

I think I've had a similar problem. It looks like the scale of your tree proxy has been lost when opened on the DR node. Is the proxy within an xref? Does the problem recur if you merge the xref into your main scenefile?
    Many Thanks

The tree is an Xref to a file (No proxy in this case). There is no transform on the tree either. Rebooting max seems to have solved it along with re-browsing for the Xref.

How have you solved your similar problem? I seem to have the most missing bucket issues on just my plants (not the other meshes/materials). I try everything including using a local material instead of the material from the Xref, merging the Xrefs in (file size ballons), changing map locations, etc. etc. etc.

        Are you using WINDOWS 7????

If so then it looks like the same issue I had for ages.....but it was easy to fix ONCE I found out what the problem was....took me ages of frustration.

In windows 7 setting there is a thing called User Accounts Control [In control panel] This basically pops up a window to get you to confirm whether to let the program run or not.
The problem was that my render machines user account controls were set to notify with a pop-up window, so when DR was running it was asking for access but because it was all running in the back-ground due to DR I could never see the pop-up....ARRGHHHHHH!
So the scenes would load but all the proxies & textures [On a network drive] would NOT load. wierd stuff???? Maybe it is because Vray was asking for the assets through TCIP protocol which windows looks at as suspicious or a threat.
Anyway as soon as I changed the user account setting to NOT notify EVERYTHING was fine.....HOORAAYYY.

Here's how to fix it IF this is your problem.
Click on - Change user account Control Settings
Lower setting to NEVER NOTIFY me & then Click OK

        Hope this helps
