  • Vray Caustic Splotches

    Hello all. Currently I work on some basic water animation scene and caustics. The scene itself works but every time I turn caustics on it introduces a lot of splotches inside the water area. The setup is a block of water and vray sun. I added a few screenshots of the different settings I use. Hope you guys can help me out.

    best regards ralphr

    You have water as a plain? Water need some waves or something to make a good caustics.

      You could try increasing the max. density setting a bit, so that the search distance is about 3-4 times larger than the max. density, setting the max. photons to 0, and then shooting more photons until it looks smooth. You could also try increasing the search radius.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

        First of all thanks for the replies.
        @jiri
        No the water is actually simulated with phoenix fd and I just used the first frame to display the splotches I am getting.

        @Vlado

        I tried increasing the photons and the search radius but the caustic become real blurry before I get kind of rid of the splotches. Playing wit the max density setting solves the splotchines to some extend but again the caustics become real blurry really quick.
        I guess I have to find the sweet spot for this particular scene and take another look at the caustics subdivs.

          It's out of post i think.....but my question to Vlado is : Is it possible to develope a "fake caustic" option that is not phically correct but very fast to calculate? just like a "bitmap" cast from a light that pass trough dielettric materialsand take in consideration the "density" of the dielettric.
          Sorry Ralphr for my post inside your but i think that this can help us to make good fake effect for the clients that don't know phisically caustics.

          Regards.
