  • VRay Advanced 2.22002 x64 Max 2012 installation bug

    Hi,

I've downloaded the last update to VRay 2 for Max and when I start the installation by executing the file "vray_adv_22002_max2012_x64.exe", I can see the a blank command panel appear and close and after nothing. It seems that the installation does not start at all.

So, in the meanwhile I've reinstalled the previous version 2.1001. I have no problem to install this version... strange

    Thanks

Make sure you are not running the installation from a network location - it would be best to copy it locally. Also, this may happen if the file did not download correctly. If you still have issues, please email us to vray@chaosgroup.com

        Hi,
I've found the problem which is particular to this new updated version. I can't install it from another partition than "C:". I always download file to another partition than the OS. This partition is on another Hard drive which is not on a network, but a physical drive on my computer. As I said, it is particular to this new updated, any version before has been installed from my download partition... strange but maybe this could give you some hint to resolve the problem.

I had the same problem just now when updating a render slave with vray_adv_22003_max2012_x64_2.20.03.exe.
I was not able to execute the file from the desktop, but after finding this thread I tried to move it directly under C: and execute it there. And it worked.

Executing the install for my previous version (think it is 2.10.xx) works from both places.
To make things even more confusing, another render slave which is basically the same system as the other one, at least software-wise, did not have this problem at all.

But executing the file from C: seems to fix the problem as mentioned. Thanks.

It might be related to the fact that the installer now automatically asks for Administrator permissions (with the older installers, you had to right-click and choose Run as Administrator...) and when it runs as administrative user, the environment (desktop path etc) might be different from the one for your normal user.

            Best regards,
            Vlado
