  • Vray stops rendering, without error message.

I'm having a very strange problem with Vray at the moment, it appears to be rendering just fine - but as soon as the light cache is finished calculating, it simply stops the render.

The Vray log displays as if it had finished the render with the usual total sequence time, etc. There are no error messages or anything. It's essentially acting as if the "don't render final image" box is checked even though it isn't.

    Any ideas?

Is it related to the particular scene?

Yes, it appears to be. The scene was working fine last time I worked in it - now it seems to have developed this problem without me changing anything in it.

Turns out Vray + Multiscatter + a material with a normal bump = fail. Very odd.

Hm, ok. Which V-Ray version is this by the way? I seem to remember a similar issue in older builds.

Just happened with me too, would never have found the problem if it wasn't for this thread! Cheers Altho now got a different problem cropping up, Light cache ETA keeps going up, never actually calculates, what causes this!?

This may happen if your "dynamic memory limit" option is too low. Rarely it happens in other cases as well when there is a problem with some material.

My dynamic memory limit was set at 8 Gb. Once I got rid of the normal bump, everything worked perfectly. I'm on the latest version of VRay.

I didn't think your problem had anything to do with the dynamic memory limit; I was replying to JOAN_LORD.

The issue in your case seems related to another issue with VRayProxy objects and the normal bump texture. Since Multiscatter is based on the VRayProxy's it's probably the same thing. Unfortunately we could not find a way to fix this on the V-Ray side, so instead we implemented the VRayNormalMap texture, which works fine.
