  • Unhandled exception with a thinking particles system

    Hi Vlado,

Getting a big problem here rendering a tp system - it's a simple one with a trail of particles that use scene geometry as their shape being released from an object - pretty bog standard system really. I get an unhandled exception first time around but oddly enough, if I okay the vray error and hit render a second time the scene seems to render correctly. My problem is that if I send the scene off to the farm, the render nodes won't be able to hit render a second time so it'll never go through. I've tried upping the motion blur samples on the tp system to 20 in case it's a sub frame thing, and I've also tried upping the entire scene to 8 motion blur samples overall for the same reasons. Annoyingly it render on it's own when it's isolated but not with the other geometry turned on. Any thoughts on what might be causing it?

I've attached the vraylog in case there's anything obvious in it.

    Thanks,

    John

Not sure what's causing it right away, but you could try to convert the TP system to a V-Ray proxy and see if it works better. The XMesh plugin might also be useful to cache the geometry so that V-Ray doesn't have to deal with TP directly.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Yep - I was thinking that alright but it'd be nice not to rely on another third party plugin ideally. Either way the shot got through by rendering locally - not ideal but it's done! I'll definitely try the vray proxy approach - that'd be a nice way to drop the processing overheads on the tp system too (even though it's disk cached)
