  • displacement and cpu usage 1 vs 2 cpu systems

I ofen have the the following problem

a scene with displacement made and setup on a single cpu system use 100% cpu power during render
no slow downs - all fine
the same scene start render on a 2 cpu system but "unload geomoetry" a lot and CPU usage is just 5% only

is there any "golden setup" for memory on dual cpu systems to avoid such in the future ? or i am forced to test render several combinations of static and dynamic memory just to find the best working setup ?

If the dynamic memory limit is too low, the two CPUs will fight for it and performance will be worse. For future builds we will be adding an Auto option for the memory limit.

i never under stood why I can set memory static, dynamic and auto
isnt "auto" and 80% of avaliable memory the best choise ?

I thought setting it to 0 is same as "auto"?

The "Auto" option only refers to the type of render geometry created for regular mesh objects. Regular meshes can be static (each instance is replicated at its position) or dynamic (each instance only defines a bounding box at its position, and only one copy of the mesh geometry is stored). The Auto option chooses whether a mesh is static or dynamic based on its polygon count and number of instances in the scene.

          In many cases, yes.

No, 0 just means no limit at all - V-Ray will take as much RAM as it needs.
