  • Odd Reflection Behavior

    Greetings all,

currently I'm working on a simple scene for a client which showed some odd reflection on my "water" surface.
My scene setup is I have a sphere with vray light material and inside a deformed plane. Nothing else.
When I set up my material and choose a reflection color with a value smaller than 100 I get odd black reflections which should not be possible in a complete white room.

Would be nice if could explain to me why that happens. Or if that is not intended at all.

Increase our max reflection/refraction depth and make sure that it is not being capped off in the render settings. You can also try changing your exit colour to the same as your material.

Thanks for the response and sorry for comming back so late.
I tried changing the exit color and made sure my max depth are not cut off in the render settings. Sadly that didn't fix the problem.

Have you tried setting up "physically correct" water to see if that works?

        - Set Diffuse to pure black
        - Reflections pure white
        - Refractions pure white
        - Affect shadows Checked
        - IOR at 1.333
        - Fog colour to suit image [start with pure white though]

Should give you a very basic though roughly physically accurate water material.

Reflection values above 100 get rid of the black therefor physically correct setting work by default.
Still thanks to you two for your input! In the end it didn't matter that much because I could use slightly different settings from mine shown above and got the result I wanted. I just perceived it as odd that the dark spots suddenly appeared.
