  • Why is it prepassing with precalculated IR?

Hi all, I am doing my first aniamtion in years and am going the old trusted LC + IR precalculated light passes route. There is nothing special going on pretty standard struff. Why would each frame sit and do a prepass for about 4 minutes prior to starting to render. The whole frame renders in about 6minutes so it's eating a lot of time? Only the camera is moving. I am not using LC for glossies.

    thanks
    Greg

Materials with interpolation turned on for glossy reflections/refractions ? These cause a prepass to happen too.

Thanks for your quick response. I don't normally use interpolation in my glossies but I'll have a look though the files. cheers

I've found one. Somehting brought in from an old job. Do you know if I'll be able to continue with the precalc'd IR I have already done or do I need to start again?

i think you will have no problem to use your precalculated imap. it may use the same "prepass" dialogue / system, but the interpolated effects are not directly connected to the imap.

to be honest i usually just kill all scene interpolation using vray automator script.
