  • RT Not rendering anything?

Hey guys just got the latest build of Vray and started RT and set me card, but for some reason my frame buffer is turning black and says waiting for image data, and whats weird is that when i navigate in the view port i see my GPU working, but still get black in the frame buffer. Any ideas?

Does it work in CPU mode? What does the render server window say?

    Best regards,

I've had this problem repeatedly. RT worked fine with the 2.2 build, but I've not been able to get this last build (2.3, came out in May) working correctly since I installed it. I've not been using VRay much, but every time I even test a modest scene, with VRay Materials, Lights and Physical Camera....I still get this black screen with "Waiting for Image Data" message. Several minutes can pass and I get nothing...even with nothing but a sphere on a plane.

Is this the CPU or the GPU version? Do you have the V-Ray RT render server registered as a Windows service or not?

          Best regards,

Both CPU and GPU, and yes RT is registered as a service.

Then try to unregister it and stop vrayrtspawner.exe if running and see what happens. V-Ray in 3ds Max should automatically start a render server.

Did that and nothing helps. Closed the the license server > restarted it. I am not seeing a vrayrtspawner.exe in windows task manager.

Good, now go to Start menu > Programs > Chaos Group > V-Ray RT Adv for for 3ds Max > RT render server. Do you see a console window with the V-Ray RT server popping up?

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

Ok then; a final question: do you have Windows Firewall enabled or disabled, or do you have some other antivirus program that might be blocking the connection between V-Ray in 3ds Max and the V-Ray render server?

                      Best regards,
                      Vlado

That was the first thing I thought of, and even after disabling them I still get this problem. Pretty much tried everything I can think of before I posted here. Uninstalled and re-installed 3 times this morning. I do recall it hanging like this sometimes, with the previous build (2.2), but I could usually just close the Active Shade window, and restart AS again. Or render a frame with the production renderer, and try ActiveShade. This was with both CPU and GPU (I have an AMD Phenom X6 1090t CPU, 16GB RAM, and NVidia GTX 470 1.25 GB RAM)

Right; I'm all out of ideas then It would be best to email our support guys at vray@chaosgroup.com and arrange a remote assistance session so that they check for themselves what's wrong.

                          Best regards,

So, just to clarify...I need both the (regular) license server open and the RT server open? I no longer see anything with RTSpawner, either in the SERVICES or PROCESSES tab of Windows Task Manager. Does that have anything to do with it?

You need the license server in any case. You can run the RT server or not as you wish - if you don't run it, V-Ray RT for 3ds Max will run it automatically for you. So it doesn't really matter.

No, this has nothing to do with the issue. The problem is somewhere else.

                              Best regards,
