  • slow fps when vrayies lights displayed in viewport

    Hello,

i have a very simple scene, i got around 350 fps when panning/rotating in wireframe with 5-6 vrayies lights hidden.
when i show the vrayies lights, i got around 175 fps !

i tried with 5-6 omni lights and i do not have this problem.

system : dual cpu, quadrofx 3800 with latest drivers.
    max 2012 and latest vray

    any ideas ?

Is this with the Nitrous viewport, or DirectX?

Vlado, can you reproduce the bug (is it really a bug) or should i make you a scene ?

Yes, we reproduced it and we'll see if there is anything that we can do about it.

Just to confirm, when using the hardware shading in directX mode, and having vrayies lights in the scene that cast the shadows in the viewport, it is extremely slow.
When having normal omnis, or max photometric lights, display is fast.

Is there any advantage of using vrayies rather than photometric lights ?

            thanks

They render faster in most cases.

And heuu... switching from wireframe to shade crashes max when i have a lot of ieslights and hardware shading in 2013...

That's not good... is it a repeatable crash?

                  Best regards,

Trying to reproduce your problem ... do you have anything specific in your scene ? Other lights ?

I'm testing with 570 VrayIES lights and 1 100 000 polygons in the scene, and everything is stable.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Sorry, max 2013 crashed 2-3 times when swithing from wire to shaded, but i don't really know if it was the ies lights which kind of slow down display, or max's viewport that kinf of crashed.

i retried with the scene but couldn't reproduce the crash.

anyway, will stick with 2012 in directx for a while i guess
