  • Comparison of Max-Ies-Light and VRayArealight with color temperature

    Dear all,

I have made a comparison of a Max IES Light and a Vray Arealight, and they seem to be quite similar concerning the light distribution, which is great. But somehow the color of the lights is different, even if both have the same kelvin and intensity adjustments. May I miss something? Maybe the intensity of the max ies lights is mixing up with the intensity written in the ies-file?

Thank you much and best regards

    Robert

My guess is that they use different methods for converting the temperature spectrum from Kelvin to a RGB color. The V-Ray conversion is consistent with the conversions done in the V-Ray sun and sky, as well as the V-Ray physical camera. However I do not know what is the conversion used by the 3ds Max photometric lights.

Also, the VRayIES lights do not attempt to perform any white balance correction - this is done by the V-Ray physical camera as needed. Whereas it is possible that the 3ds Max photometric lights automatically correct for D65 white balance.

    Best regards,
