    there is no SA forum sections so I post here

    the 1.5 is missleading here - should be 2.x imho

        Basically V-Ray Standalone is a V-Ray server which do not need Maya software to run, so practically it is a standalone application for rendering.
        Standalone server can open ".vrscene" files only, which can be exported from V-Ray installed as plug-in for Maya application.
        Also, the Standalone server can receive jobs from another Standalone server or workstation with Maya and V-Ray installed.
        The Standalone can either distribute parts of images over a network to other standalone servers for rendering (which we call Distributed rendering) or it can render by itself.
