  • Displacement Swich bug in 2.30.01 ??

    Hi
Since using version 2.3X - even when not using displacement - unless I turn off the displacement switch - I get infinite Building Light Cache times. (which force me to crash MAX to stop - they never stop otherwise)

This was not happenning in prior versions.

Do you have a scene? Works fine for me in general.

I would send you the scene - but it seems that sometimes it works fine and sometimes the Building Light Cache just get stuck.(I just tried with the same scene and it was OK......)
and it has nothing to do with the size of the scene - can happen even with a small one.

Ok then; whenever you get the issue again, can you create a minidump of the 3dsmax.exe process right at that time (you can use Process Explorer for this) and send me the resulting .dmp file to vlado@chaosgroup.com ?

        Best regards,
        Vlado

            hi
I am trying to create a dump file but it says it is making it - nothing happens.

Should it be taking so long ??

Did you choose a full dump or a mini dump? A full dump might take a while to create - it would be best if you can get me a mini dump.

              Best regards,

in the Windows Tasb Manager >> processes window there is only a "Create Dump File" option (Win 7)
Is there a different place where this can be done ?

That's a full dump; it is usually quite large and will take a while to create. That's why I suggested using Process Explorer (you can get it from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx) which has an option for a mini-dump.

                  Best regards,

the issue is not persistent - it does not happen each and everytime..

Yes, it's why I need that mini-dump from you I'm having difficult time to reproduce this here myself.

                          hi
This issue is not necessarily related to "displace" since I have had cases where the problem occurs even when it was OFF.

Any news regarding the issue ? it is very annoying.
