  • VrayMatteShadow Element

    Hi,

    i want this:

rgb: all objects, no matte objects -> works fine
alpha: all objects, no matte objects -> works fine
vraymatteshadow: only the shadows which the matte objects received, no shadows which the other objects received -> works only if the other object have no material, if they have a material the selfshadow is visible in the vraymatteshadow element

    is this a know bug?
    thanks for help!

Can you not just mask out the objects that you don't need from the vraymatteshadow element?

that solution means to render two sequences. but for time saving i try to render the hole thing in one pass and just separate the matte shadows to the renderelement.

Hm, why is that? You can use the multimatte element to get the mask.

i was just looking for the same thing, matteshadow on matte objects only, ended up using a alphamask but it quickly got nasty due to outlines...

As kimgar has said, masking out the shadow pass isn't enough, as it will still be visible around object edges (since a mask is usually anti-aliased and thus semi-transparent around the edges).

But why exactly are self-shadows of non-matte objects appearing in the element anyway? I mean, why is it called "VRayMatteShadow" if it isn't restricted to matte objects? Could that at least be made an option?
