  • VrayPhysicalCam - Whitebalance - Stop from Affecting Environment/BG map?

    Hi folks,

Is it possible to stop the VrayPhysCam white balance from affecting the environment/background map? I'm using a specific photograph for the background environment and need to match the photo's lighting and white balance exactly across a sequence (timelapse), but whenever I change the white balance in the vray camera it also affects this background env map, making matching it useless/impossible.

Is there a way to stop the cam from affecting it, or maybe some kind of reverse method for "undoing" the white balance effects on the fly?

One workaround is to have the footage open in Image Viewer next to the Frame Buffer and try to best-guess/eyeball/picker but this is not very efficient at all.

    Cheers,

There is an option in Vray Color Mapping " Affect Background " turn it off - and your BG won't be affected.

I though that but it was already checked.

That doesn't appear to work, with either WB or Exposure. I have "Affect Background" checked ON but when I change exposure or WB (or other things) in the VrayPhysicCam it changes the background as well. Sorry I can't post an example but it's easy to imagine what's happening.

The background map is an IFL loading a JPG sequence, but same thing happens on a single still JPG/PNG etc.

This is with Max 2012 64-bit Vray 2.10.01 by the way.

      Thanks,

It should be OFF - not ON

Well... there you go! I thought it sounded odd! It seems to work fine now although during the IM/LC passes the bg is displayed massively underexposed, although it renders fine and reflects just fine in the main render pass, so not much of a problem. Just throwing me off.

          Cheers!
