  • Self Illuminated Material Light Pass?

I'm asking this question for a friend

    His situation is this,

I have a scene that I'm wanting to render out in separate light passes using the vray light select element. I'll use these separate light passes in an additive compositing process to control as much as I can in post. For lights, or groups of lights this works just fine; I add the lights to the vray light select elemnts, render out, and do whatever post stuff I need to. The problem, however, is with surfaces that are using the vray light material for self illumination. These surfaces are not only contributing to GI, which I could turn off if I wanted to in their vray properties, but they're also emmiting direct illumination. It's this direct illumination from light emmitting surfaces that I'm not sure how to control with an element.

this can be tricky. One way would be to render that particular element separately as RGB and control it that way. Another would be to turn your geometry to a object light, maybe then you can add it to a light select?
