  • Brightness differences and their reasons

    Hello,

I'm getting frames of different brightness on specific rendernodes but I'm not sure where to look for the reason.

I'd like to compile a checklist to debug the whole thing and I need your experiences. So please post your hints.
I want to understand which settings are involved when rendering on the farm.
Is using the "wrong" decimal character in windows still an issue when rendering on the farm? Just out of curiosity: why should this be (or was) a problem at all?

    regards,
    Henning

can you show us an image? it could be the gamma settings are different on your network machines and your user machine...Used to be an issue a while ago.

yes, here's are bright (the proper brightness, i think) and dark examples:

      both:

These issues don't happen all the time and the gamma settings remain unchanged. The working machines have basically just clean installs of max. When I start max in them their gamma is set to 2.2 (in and output as well).
When I try to correct the darker image to match the bright one I have to multiply the values by 1.09 to roughly visually match.

As I wrote this post I had the Idea to check the vray versions.
One machine had Build 2.20.01 and one had something like 2.25.01 (a nightly). Bad administration on my part!
So if the issues go away when every node has the latest official build I'll report.
