  • Motion blur problem with moving camera

    Good day,

    I'm having a problem with the Vray Motion blur.

    My scene is filled with water sprinklers which are particle emitters (supersprays).
    With the vray motion blur enabled, particles render just fine like I want them, but

    when I use a moving camera, I get motion blur on the entire image, which is very undesirable.
    My setup is IR/LC either single pass or incremental, whatever I chose the problem is still here...

    What am I doing wrong ? I remember the 3dsmax motion blur where you could use image vs object motion blur..

    Do I have to stop using Vray motion blur with a moving Camera ?
    Did anyone come across this nightmare ?

    One detail : Vrayphysical camera is crashing my 3dsmax2009, so I can't use this feature.

    Thanks in advance,
    Xtrude

    What vray build are you working with? There is a checkbox under camera "use camera motion blur" if you un-check it, there should not be a motion blur from camera movement. I would refrain from calling this a "nightmare"; vray is a physically accurate render engine, in real world a moving camera will produce motion blur. However vray does have an option to skip camera motion blur. I would do more research before posting such comment.

      I'm working with Vray 1.5 SP6 ;

      Sorry, I didn't mean to minimize Vray's qualities, it's a great renderer. That's why I bought it 3 years ago actually;

      Well, you are right about this point : after some tests I realized my camera is moving rapidly, that's why I get an "entire image fx".

      Your idea about a "tick" sounds interesting : are you talking about a specific tick I didn't see ? Please help me find it !

      or is it the motion blur activation tick ? Come on...

      Edit > I checked everywhere but I can't seem to find that tick you're talking about..

      Could you please precise ? please !!!!!

      I thank you for your help.

        There is a "Camera motion blur" option starting from V-Ray 2.0, which allows you to turn of the motion blur due to camera movement; it is unfortunately not present in V-Ray 1.5

        Best regards,
        Vlado

          Well.... Thank you Vlado,

          Don't take it too seriously, but...
          my... I haveto purchase Vray 2.0 to get a 3dsmax 1.0 function back ? No problem ! lol
          I'll probably upgrade very soon, anyway...

          In order to help the 1.5 users like me : I corrected the "overall" motion blur effect by multiplying my camera animation lenght by 300% ;
          from a sequence of 250 frames, I'm now with 750 frames. My particles are blurred, but the other objetcs look fine.

          I'll only have to change all my storyboard !! and make cuts, so to rendre frames 0-70, 250-325, and 680-750... it may lead to a nervous rythme i like it !!!
          I gues I may get a little blurr on some frames, but it may be okay.. I'll see in the test renders.

            Back ; test renders are okay ; this lil blur looks like a DOF effect, but much quicker rendered

            I'll see in Premiere if the png render well when assembled, but from what I can see frame by frame it's relatively smooth.
            1-2 pictures for u guys.. frame 280 and 711. characters are not animated since we don't have time to render with moving objects.
            The only moving objects are water drops. Characters are not important anyway, and their figures shall be better when rotoscoped than straightfully animated.
            What's important here is the water games.

            Regards,
            Xtrude

              A lil update ;

              the camera blur created too much noise in the movie ;
              Our customer "gave" us one month more to complete a smoother movie ;
              and we upgraded to Vray 2.0 to get rid of the camera motion blur.

              Oh that "camera motion blur" tick is awesome !!!
