  • Gamma 2.2 with max buffer/net render

    Hi guys,

I made the switch to Gamma 2.2 the other day and am loving the results. However, I need to know how to get network renders to produce the same quality image as the vray buffer on my machine! They all seem blown out. I've searched the numerous posts on the forum but can't seem to find out what I'm doing wrong.

    Anyone help me...please?

    whats the problem?
Do the frame buffers look different during rendering? Or does the completed rendered frames looked different when you open them up (both completed frames from your pc and from other computer)?
    Kind Regards,

Gamma 2.2 with max buffer/net render

As you can see from the images there are radical differences between the Vray and Max buffers. The first image is with the Max buffer and the second is the Vray buffer. Notice the difference on the lower part of the front bumper and the 'yellowness' in the vray buffer render which isn't present in the Max buffer version.

Sorry...it's the vray buffer that's first and the Max buffer second.

        Numpty!

ok well when you say you switched to the gamma 2.2, that can mean many things. I thought you going full LWF

How are you saving the file when you render to max buffer?
How are you saving the file when you render to vray frame buffer?

          AND:
If you render to a VRay frame buffer and you clone the window, how do they compare visually before save?
          Kind Regards,
          Morne

Both max and vray buffers are being saved down to tiff files. The max buffer render appears washed out pre-save. After saving down it is identical to the vray buffer image. However, this doesn't explain why there are differences when I net render.

Gamma 2.2 with max buffer/net render

I've just rebooted both my PC and the render node. Now both vray buffer renders and the net render are the same....? Not sure what's going on but all seems fine now.

Wierd! can't explain that one but all seems OK.

                good that it "works" now

But if you have time try this:
                1. In colour mapping settings, tick "Don't affect colours (adaptation only)
                2. In render setup under VRay: Frame Buffer, tick "Render to V-Ray raw image file" and give your file a name and add .exr to the end of it. This will auto-save a linear file in exr format so no need to save after the render.
                3. In actual Vray Frame Buffer at the bottom there is a button "sRGB", make sure this button is ticked and enabled. It will give you correct "preview" of your linear render.
                4. If you dont like exr files, then you'll have to override gamma output to 2.2 during save, OR in your max gamma settings change the output to 2.2 (but I highly recommend the EXR files)
                5. If you open the EXR in photoshop it will look like your VFB with the sRGB button ticked (unless you have all kinds of colour profiles loaded in windows and photoshop)
                Kind Regards,
                Morne
