  • Render Layers corrupted when saving as png

    Hi,
I am saving my rendered images out as PNG to save disk space. Lately my render layers are saving as corrupted images. My main image looks fine. When I save as a TIF the layers are OK, it's just PNG problem, but I need to find a solution. See attached image.Click image for larger version

Not an answer to your problem but try exr files - there's a lot of different compression options, especially with the option RE render element, and they come out tiny!

Are you saving from the V-Ray VFB or from the 3ds Max output?

      Best regards,
      Vlado

        Hi Vlado,
Not from the VFB. Just regular 3DS Max output.

Ah ok. Do you have the 3ds Max bitmap pager enabled or disabled? Are you saving to 8-bit or 16-bit PNG files? Maybe switching the output to a different format for a moment (e.g. JPG) and then back to PNG will help.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

Hi Vlado-Yes the bitmap pager is enabled. I was saving to 8-bit. Strange because I am having this trouble on 2 different machines. We are rendering very large-about 8000 pixels wide. I will try to switch back and forth again and see if that works.

If you are rendering large images, then I'd recommend going through .vrimg files; it tends to be more robust in general.
