  • GI file read error?

So this issue started popping up recently. Rendering GI with Irad/LC from file.

The frame on the right appears not to be rendering gi on the same Deadline job. It seems to happen randomly on the farm to about half of the nodes.

The Irad/LC files are in the same location as the max file. Everything points to the same Network drive w:/

Deadline is set to error with missing external files/xrefs/dlls etc. No errors showing up during render.

Was thinking there's possibly a network error in reading the irradiance/lc files from 50 nodes at the same time?

    Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm getting the exact same thing, what might be worth doing is turning off the option of restarting max between frames if you have the ram to do it - you might have a better chance of holding the irmap in ram, unless vray does lazy loading of the files per frame.

I tried to turn off restarting max between frames. I also tried to only submit 10 frames at one time incase 50 was overloading the network.
      Both attempts failed.

The irradiance/lc files are 220mb total as well. Will recalculate the irad/lc files just in case.

UPDATE: New irad and lc files, same problems.

Same problems here with a render overnight, to be honest I think it's mainly a deadline and drive issue and not a lot to do with vray, unless vlado can put in some kind of double level of error checking in loading the irradiance map.

There's already triple error checking - i.e. V-Ray will attempt to load the map three times before giving up.

Is there anything in the V-Ray log on the render slaves related to this? Normally V-Ray will print stuff like "irradiance map loaded" (or not) and stuff like that...

          Best regards,
          Vlado

I'll check those out alright, I'll see what feedback the deadline logs give too. Much appreciated vlado.

The source of the issue is the VRay version. Found another post on the forum with the same issue and consistency of VRay versions fixed it for them.

My work machine is running version 2.3 while the render farm has both 2.0 and 2.3 machines. If the irradiance map is generated from a 2.3 box, it will not render properly on a 2.0 render node.

However, if the irradiance map is generated from a 2.0 box, it will render properly across both 2.3 and 2.0 render nodes.

              Hope this helps.

Superstar, will check back over the offending nodes to see which ones error. Much appreciated!
