  • Matte & shadow

    Hi

I am having some difficulty achieving a matte and shadow effect. I just want a piece of geometry to cast a shadow onto a plane so that it looks like it is sitting on the floor but not to see the plane.

Attached are my settings which I think are correct but all I get is an invisible floor plane, are there any settings that I need to set under the VRay Properties for the geometry ?

    Thanks

Your settings look alright. Maybe there is something wrong in the scene.
I attached a simple scene with this effect for reference.

Let us know if you still have problems with that.

      Hi Zdravko

Thanks for taking the time to make this scene.

Your model does work the way it should (see first image) but when I add a VRay Dome light and turn off the Plane Light you will see that the base plane shows as opaque. I can turn off Generate GI and Receive GI but, I don't want to have to do that.

I think the dome light does not support matte shadow, you need to make it invisible and instead use environment hdr.

Do you mean to add a hdr image to the texture part of the dome light ?

no I mean hide the dome light completely and instead use the environment override in render settings/environment tab of vray.

but when I add a VRay Dome light and turn off the Plane Light you will see that the base plane shows as opaque.
Make sure that you set the GI Environment (skylight) override slot color to black. Also you can set the domelight multiplier to 1
