  • More than 10 DR slaves?

    Hi,

We have 3 Vray licenses and 16 machines, but I can only get 10 of them to be used for a distributed render.

I thought having 3 licenses allows up to 30 renderers, is that correct?

    Many thanks,

    Michael.
    Cheers, Michael.

Are the licenses on separate dongles? If yes, you will need to plug all dongles in one machine, so that the V-Ray license server can see all the licenses at the same time.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Hi Vlado,

Thanks for the advice, however I must be doing something wrong still as I can't get this to work.

Our setup was 3 separate licenses on dongles, so machines a, b and c all installed as workstations and using localhost. machine d and 8 slaves were pointing at b, the remaining 5 at c but as you explained this isn't correct.

I've then unplugged the dongle in c, added this to machine b, and pointed all the slaves to b, in the server status it says 2 workstations and 20 dr available.

Machines d and c both now get a 10060 error and only 10 dr slaves get used. I believe our firewall is allowing vrlservice through.

      Any ideas?

      Many thanks, Michael.
      Cheers, Michael.

        Hello fewlo,

Could you please confirm that all the dongles are plugged into a single machine - for example Machine B.
In that case you should have 30 DR licenses on that machine - you can check that by going to http://localhost:30304/getstatus and looking at DR licenses.
After this is done - you have to point all other machines - slaves and workstations to get license from Machine B.

Could you please post Vray Spawner log from machine D and C with 10060 error - the log is located under the windows temp directory - you can easily go there by typing %temp% in windows explorer.

          Hello Svetlozar,

Thanks for the reply, I've got everything sorted now with your help! Under the pressure of deadlines I was trying to cut corners and only moved two dongles, thinking that would give me 21 DR licenses, of course I was only getting the 10 of my local dongle - I worked that out after realising through backburner all slave where being used! All 3 are now on one machine.

The 10060 error was occuring because for one reason or another vrlservice had to be allowed access again through the firewall.... I had it registered as a service so didn't spot that until I did a manual start of it.

All is working perfect now, many thanks to you and Vlado! Note to self - don't cut corners, do as the experts tell you!

          Cheers, Michael.
          Cheers, Michael.
