Render Slave with 2 versions of Max/Vray

Have a working Distributed Rendering Farm using 3ds Max 2010 and Vray 2.10.01.
Want to upgrade everything to 3ds Max 2013 and Vray 2.30.01.
For a test installed Max 2013 and Vray 2.3 on my workstation and 1 render slave - old software is still on there.
DR doesn't work with the Max 2013 and Vray 2.3 - I get "Render Slave is not responding", or it renders all black (not as if it was missing textures, just black).
DR still works with Max 2010 and Vray 2.1
Checked the vrayspawner 2010 and vrayspawner2013, and they seem to have the same permissions, so I don't understand why one works and not the other. vrayspawner2010 opens automatically when computer starts, and vrayspawner2013
I start manually, but other than that they seem to be the same. Is it possible to get them both to work?

You need to have identical V-Ray versions on all nodes.

I do have identical versions. For 3ds Max 2013 I have Vray 2.30.01 on both workstation and render slave. (I didn't want to type the extra numbers so I started abbreviating 2.30.01 to 2.3, not sure if that's what threw you off)

No, you only can get one or the other working - they share the same TCP/IP port. However you can just leave the 2013 version running - it will handle 2010 DR jobs just fine.
