  • Haifarm 2.0 Z-Sorting Problem

    Greetings!

We're currently resetting our Hair-pipeline to use Hairfarm and V-Rays new VrayHairFarmMod, and during testing i always got an odd kind of jittering inside the hair itself.

First I thought it was a too low sampler setting, but additional tests revealed, that the Hair has some kind of z-buffer problem. Like V-Ray couldn't really sort out the exact position of the hair in the 3D-space.

You can see it quite good when simply placing hair on a plane an giving each hair a random color e.g. with VRayHairInfoTex. A sample scene and the rendering result is attached. Rendered with Hairfarm 2.1.0.139 and V-Ray 2.30.01

    Thanks in advance,

Just rendered your scene with vray nightly builds on 3ds 2013 and everything looked fine so i guess what the problem was is now sorted.
You should contact Vlado if you need this before vray 2.4 will be out.

Wow, great news. Thank you for testing.

It's pretty urgent so looks like I have to contact Vlado asap.

Do you maybe know whether the nightlies are also still available for Max2010?

Don't know for sure because our oldest working version is 2011, but i guess it's still compiled for 2010.

What kagemaru said - it looks fine in the latest nightly builds; you can email us to vray@chaosgroup.com for more information.

Btw in your scene, the hair is rendered with both V-Ray and HairFarm - you should disable at least one of them

            Best regards,
            Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

              Hi Vlado,

              thanks. Support is already contacted.

Btw ...in the example scene the "Use Hair Farm Renderer" option in the Hair Display WSM is switched off (otherwise, the Hair would've shown strange outlines and massively increased rendertimes)
But I observed that when either merging an Hairfarm-object into a scene or when making a copy of an existing Hairfarm-object, that option is always switched on again, no matter if it was switched off or not before.

              Best regards,
              Stefan Spatz
