  • Glow issue around trim

I'm getting a weird glow around the bottom window trim and baseboard. I usually have "Refractive" checked under GI caustics, but that made it worse. What you see is with it unchecked. Also, I tried using a Retrace threshold of .1, but it made no difference, so I turned that off as well. Any other thoughts?

btw - I'm using a Fixed filter and pre-filter to eliminate banding issues that I was getting on the glass shelving.

    Thanks

    Dave

Yes. I get that, too!. I was told to create a 'blocker", which worked. So, I basically put a gray box behind the wall that is having the issue.

I ticked "sample visibility" and it doesn't seem any different. So then I tried making a "blocker". That did help, but there's still glowing going on. The issue has to do with V-Ray Sun. If I turn that off, I don't have a problem. Hmmm.....

I tried that too, but nothing.... What I stumbled on was a Light Cache setting for "Reconstruction parameters". I had the Filter set for "Fixed" and a size of .4 in order to eliminate some major banding issues I was getting the glass shelves. I set the filter size down to .08 and that seems to be the threshold for the glowing issue. Also, it seems that the banding remains gone too! Thanks for the help! God is good!

shell your geometry, that should fix the issue.

Thanks! That also helps a LOT. I didn't know about the Shell modifier.

its a common practice, I think vlado even posted a diagram once showing why this happens. In any case in real world everything has thickness so when you try to tell the raytracer that single sided geometry has thickness its hard to make that work properly.

Ticking "Retrace threshold" is a good way to fix stuff like this.
