How to create a realistic Candle Wax and Candle Flame ??

I'm having problems creating a Candle Wax.

I tried SSS and I tried Transulency using a standard VRayMtl but I'm having no joy - way too much noise.

My other issue is creating a realistic candle flame - I have a long banquet table that has loads of tealights and pillar candles needed and need to know how to do this before close of play today

Tried looking in forum and online but nothing is out there.

Can someone please help me out ?

Map the candle with a gradient using colours sampled from a photo of a candle, and film the flame in a dark room, create an alpha and apply it to a vray light material as an animated texture.

If you want the candle light to flicker make a copy of the flame object, set it to not-visible and ramp up the intensity a load. Supplement this with a vray light so it doesnt have to do all of the work.


When I did this recently I had 2,500 frames of flame and randomised the start position for every object, so none were flickering in sync.
