  • Image Banding in Vray Render

I have been doing some render test to try and figure out why i am getting banding when using different file types. At the moment i am getting more banding using PNG files 8k uncompressed. Less with the TIFF 8k uncompressed. Sometimes its hit or miss and dependent on the camera and how close or far you are. At the moment they are both 8k 16bit files uncoomplressd. I am loading them in using the images gamma. My max gamma settings in the image bellow and my vray settings also, i am using the SRGB button on the vray frame buffer. Thanks in advanced for any info.

    Hello kriscabrera15

Would it be possible to send us this scene along with the texture files in order to test it in our environment ?
Thank you very much in advance.

Try using a VRayHDRI texture for the bitmap, and set the interpolation type to Bicubic or Biquadratic - it may help to smooth things out a bit.

It's a problem of the 3ds Max Bitmap texture. It uses some fast approximations when filtering 8-bit and 16-bit textures. These are indeed very fast, but at the expense of precision, which leads to the banding. VRayHDRI uses full floats for this, which is a tad slower, but hey - no banding

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado
