  • transparency optimization for animation.

    Hi All,

I have a problem with a scene. We're rendering a big retail shop and going through optimisation to make things renderable.
We have already decimated the number of polygons, simplified the shaders as much as we can and limited the number of lights and subdivision.
I have a problem with a sort of silk material, I can't find a way to render it in a reasonable amount of time.
The client loves it so I can't compromise too much in terms of quality but it is the things that slow down the render.
I am talking about 3 layers of this semitransparent silk that let's see through. The material has glossy reflection and a little bit of anisotropy.
I am using visibility instead of opacity / refraction to make it transparent, I had the feeling it works faster. Can you confirm it?
As well it is not casting shadow, nor it is visible in reflection.
Can you suggest any other optimization?

I think I didn't try yet to exclude it from generating GI, this might help, I'll give it a go.

    Any other idea?

    Regards,

    Giacomo.

Use the vray override material and put something simpler into the gi, ref and shadow layers. I used it recently on some cloth blinds and it make a pretty big difference.

If you can try to post a simplified scene, it will be very helpful.

      Best regards,

        Jo, I'll try your approach.
Vlado I'll try to send you something as things get slower at work, crazy deadline as usual, thanks for offering your help.

        Kind Regards,

        Giacomo.
