  • WireColor pass is black

    Hello,

I have a problem with my VRayWireColor pass: sometimes it works well, sometimes not.
For example, I have a MultiScatter object in the scene: all scattered objects appear black in the wirecolor pass whereas the color of the layer is set to green.
Also, I checked that each object color is set to "By Layer" in the "Object Color" dialog box of the objects properties.

    Thx in advance,
    BOKEH Studio

Check that the normals on the objects aren't flipped.

Thx: I checked, normals are ok. I investigated a bit further and it seems that VrayWireColor can't handle Multiscatter objects
I have to ask on iCube Forum to be sure.

Can you send us example scene ? It could also be related to Vray as well - so it would be helpful if you send us a reproducible scene.

          Hello,
Sorry I can no longer replicate the problem, I don't understand. It renders fine now. Anyway I will come back to you with th required informations if it happens again.

          Thank you,

My problem is back again: I sent you an email with a link to download the whole scene and check by yourself.
I attached cropped RGB and VRayWireColor passes.

            Thx for investigations,

What kind of geometry is this? (normal mesh, proxy, forest pro, multiscatter?)

              Best regards,
              Vlado

Did you send the download link to our support mail, so i can check the scene here?

                      Hi again,

Thank you for sending us the scene file.
Made some tests and it seems that V-Ray Wire color element is rendered correctly (version 2.40.04 for Max 2013).
Could you specify some more details about the software versions that you are using (V-Ray, Multiscatter) ?
Also make sure that the wire color is set for the distributed object not for the multiscatter one.

                        Thank you for the reply.
VRayWireColor is still rendering black for scattered objects here.
                        I use VRay 2.40.03, Multiscatter 1.2.0.9, 3ds max Design 2013 x64 and Win 7 Pro x64
I checked that the color of the object which is being scattered is set to "By Layer" in its Properties dialog box (please see attached file).

                        I did the following test:

_ I opened the scene I sent to you
_ I hit render: problem is there, VRayWireColor pass si black for the scattered object
_ I set the scattered object color to "By object"
_ I hit render: no problem, VRayWireColor is ok
_ I set the scattered object color back to "By Layer"
_ I hit render: no problem, VRayWireColor is ok now

So it seems to be a workaround but it is quite annoying having to do all these steps to achieve the desired result.
                        Hope you have an idea.

Thanks for your update on this case, we will try again to reproduce it by using the same soft. versions.
I'm glad to hear that you have found a workaround for now.

Well, it renders fine with the same V-Ray, Max, Multiscatter versions here.
Can you try on a new simple scene to reproduce the same issue. It might be connected to the other plugins used in this scene.

Here is the answer from MultiScatter Support team about my problem:

"looks like we found the problem its related to the plugins core architecture:basically Wirecolor cannot be assigned by layer.
It does work, just not by layer. Rendering of scatter happens from temporary layer, thats why "by layer" settings are ignored.
You can assign WireColor "By Object" instead"

And when I assign "By Object" color on scattered object, VRayWireColor pass now renders fine
