I have a scene that is being a pain! The slaves are engaged, but they never start rendering. I don't get any errors. The log shows "starting frame 0", to all slaves, and it ends with "light cache contains 184623 samples". What would cause this, and what can I look for as being a potential culprit? I am using Multiscatter, and Autograss, but that's nothing new. The only thing new is I installed Vray for 3DS MAX 2014, but this scene is in 3DS MAX 2013. It's rendering fine, but it's only my main workstation that is contributing to the render. I am using BF/LC.

If you're using multiscatter and autograss, it sounds like it could be a heavy scene. It's possible that the scene data is taking a really long time to transfer to the slaves. The only time I ever have slaves not picking up without errors is from gigantic scenes. Try turning off your grass and multiscatter temporarily and see if that makes them go faster (as a test, obviously).

I removed the Multiscatter, which helped overall, but it's still taking a ton of time for the slaves to start. I let this one process, and 45 minutes into the render, the IR map started being transferred to the slaves.Bobby Parker

I noticed that my taskbar was saying that the wibukey wasn't started, so I started it. This was the other day... so, today I was trouble shooting; undoing anything that had changed in the past several days, and I turned that back off. Now, what was churning for 6+hrs rendered in 10 minutes. So, something with installing the latest V-Ray, for 3DS MAX 2014, gummed things up. I am still using MAX 2013 on this job.Bobby Parker

Hi,
Have you completely uninstalled V-Ray for Max 2014 for your last try (render down to 10min)?
If you still have V-Ray 2.40.04 for 2014 installed, try to render with very simple scene, just high DMC settings to slow down the render process.
Do you have V-Ray spawner running as a service on the slaves or you start them manually?
It will be helpful if we can see the full log file from one of the slaves.

I'm starting vray spawner manually. Is it better to run it as a service?
Do you get any errors in the V-Ray Log files from the render slaves?
Make sure that the license is set correctly on the slaves and all of them have identical version installed.
About the render spawner, it's up to you.
