  • Vray 2.40.04 for 3ds Max visible to camera bug

    Hi,

Ever since Vray 2.40.04 and a few nightly builds preceding i am encountering a bug where when objects have disabled camera visibility, there are some ghost black artifacts remaining after them. I do not remember such problems in version 2.30 and earlier.

I am attaching pictures. I tried to email Vlado directly at vlado@chaosgroup.com with the scene attached, but both my mails returned with Error: message file too big.

That problem has been around for a long time.
It happens because of intersecting geometry.
You can increase the secondary ray bias slightly (.01) and it should fix some of the problem

Thanks a lot, i just started to notice it after Vray update, so maybe it is just a coincidence.

Just tried secondary ray bias values of 0.01, 0.1 and 1 but it did not help. It changed the appearance of those artifacts a little, but did not remove them.

I can confirm that this bug has been around for ages.

Yes, probably true, seems like this was a first time i tried to hide visibility of some very complex objects to camera.

Just increase the max. transparency levels in the Global switches rollout and it will be fine.

              Best regards,
              Vlado

Except that that might have a very negative impact on rendertimes and undesirable visual appearance. Good to know this as a workaround though.
