I have 32Gb on my main machine, and 24Gb on my 5 i7's. I usually run around 15Gb, on most scenes. This scene, which I'll post tomorrow, has displacement for the roof, siding, and some stone. I also have multiscatter grass and trees.

Well, displacement isn't really special, at least for my projects.Originally posted by cubiclegangster View PostI asked if you had displacement and you said 'nothing special'...Bobby Parker

I ´m not sure if this is directly connected to your problem not beeing able to cancel rendering.
But Multiscatter can be quite unpredictable. I ´m not sure if this is a vray or multiscatter problem.
Probabely it´s more a Vray issue or maybe just the way it is.
If you have a lot of objects intersecting, the lightcache will use a lot more memory compared to having the same amount of objects
not or only slightly intersecting.
I made an example
A simple teapot scattered 1mio times on a plane.
The first images show the memory consumption of 1mio teapots.
The second image shows the memory consumption again of 1 mio teapots.
In this image I transformed some vertex of the teapot to extend the bounding box.
Means a lot more intersection is going on. Notice the difference in memory consumption
while the amount of geometry and gi settings are the same.
This is why you sometimes can render multiscatter with for example 5mio instances
without a problem while another time a scene with just 1mio instances completely
freaks out. Always try to keep the intersection as low as possible.

Could you please try to activate "Low Thread Priority" from Settings Tab > Miscellaneous options and run the same test again.
If it is possible please send us this scene in order to investigate what is root of this issue.

I am having a similar'ish problem with Vray 3002 & Max 2014. The final bucket in the render "hangs" for ages. Sometimes it finishes, but other times it just hangs there and 3dsMax becomes unresponsive (have to kill Max to stop it). No displacement being used. scene memory usage during rendering is about 5Gb. Also, sometimes even when the rendering is finished (Rendering tab says "Rendering image.....:done" ) & all the buckets have gone, it still hangs / crashes 3dsMaxLast edited by leotchest; 18-02-2014, 02:02 PM.Win10.Ryzen1950X. 80GbRam. is it always on a specific element? Like, lets say, something bright? I thought 3.X had a toggle which avoids that.Bobby Parker
