  • Displacement - Prepass - Animation

    Hey hoh,

I do have a scene with tones of VrayDisplacement modifiers on my objects.
GI is on. I crank up the edge length to speed up things - but the prepass calculation still takes forever.

Any ideas to decrease calculation times ?

thx for any little help !

Do you need displacement on for the IR map, how detailed is it?

instead of changing edge length, subdivide the objects more and lower the subdivisions right down to somewhere like 4 or 8.

        Hi,

Adding more details to the most of your objects will lead to slower GI calculations, especially when they are quite small. Therefore it might be better to use brute force instead (with LC as secondary if needed).
The Irradiance map could produce better speed in case that very low settings are used at coast of the GI quality. However, you can try to decrease only NRM threshold value and make a test with animation prepass. probably you can get an acceptable Gi quality result with this approach.
