Can I set the subdivs to a value higher than 100 somehow? maxscript?

Yep, $.subdivs = 200 will do it for the selected camera. It won't reflect the change in the ui, but if you just use $.subdivs in the listener it should return 200.

You can also just up the DMC image sampler subdivs... the result will be exactly the same.
