  • Remote desktop into render node causes DR to fail

3 of our rendernodes have i7 3930k processors with 32GB RAM. I seem to be having an issue whereby if they are rendering a DR job, and I remote desktop into them, DR for that machine drops and I can't get it to reconnect.

    Why would this happen?

3 different render nodes are based on i7-2600k CPUs and they don't seem to exhibit this behaviour. They have 16GB RAM.

The scene I am currently rendering uses around 8-10GB RAM.
Even restarting the service on one of the problem machines doesn't seem to help it come back.

I had this problem a while back, but I'm not entirely sure how we fixed it. I think we updated the drivers for the network adaptors. I do know that the machines that had the problem, now don't have the problem. However since fixing that problem, we have completely updated the machines to win 7 from xp. Perhaps it's worth seeing if the network cards need a driver update and going with that.
If I get a sudden brainwave and remember what we did to fix it, I'll drop it here.

Thanks fella. Very useful. I know we are using the basic on-board NIC so I will visit Intel's site and manually check for updates.

Maybe test if it does the same if you use something like teamviewer instead of windows remote desktop?
