  • VrayLightSelect Bug?

    Hey,

I'm not sure if this is a bug or just something that has happened to me. I'm rendering out a scene with a bunch of lights using the VrayLightSelect element, currently I have 4 lightselect elements. When rendering on my PC it works fine, all the elements come out perfectly, however when I submit my renders to our render farm (via Backburner) it just doesn't render the 1st Vraylightselect element.

It doesn't come out black or anything, it just doesn't render as if it was never there, all the other passes come out perfectly. At first I thought it may have been a specific light select but once deleting it and re-adding it the next lightselect at the top didn't render.

I hope this makes sense, it's not really a train smash as I just submit another render with just that light on, but if there was a way to fix this it would be great.

    Thanks
    Hayden

    Hi,

Which Max/V-ray version do you use?
Is the first Lightselect element missing only on save, would it be possible to check one of the machine's VFB during the render?
I made few tests and it seems to work fine with Backburner.

Hey Tashko thanks for the reply.
      I'm using 3ds max 2014 and vray version 2.40.04
I checked the frame buffers on the rendernodes and the lights are on they are just not saving out. It's very weird because it's only the 1st lightselect element out of the 4 but if I have it on it's own it works fine or if I render on my PC there's no problems.

EDIT: would it make a difference if I'm using the max FB? Not currently using the VFB.

Hi again and thank you for your answers.

Actually I'm not sure, probably not but i need to test this.

You are saving the files from the 3DS Max save option, is that correct?
What is the file format that you are using ?

I'm saving them from the render elements tab, under Selected Element Parameters, I think that's what you were asking?
And then I'm saving them as PNG images.

Just waiting for stuff to finish rendering then I can attach a file to send you.

These are my render elements settings...

            Hi again,

I made few tests and it seems that the problem is in the render element naming. Could you try to rename each Lightselect pass to have identical/unique name?
Please let me know if this helps.

              Hi Tashko,

Thanks again for your reply. I did the test and renaming the element to a unique name worked. Strange that it worked for the other 3, just not the 1st one.
Thanks so much for all your help, really appreciate it.

              Cheers
              Hayden

                Thank you.

I spoke with the developers about this and the only option is to change the name manually for now. Every render element needs a unique name in order to be saved correctly.
Probably we will add an automatic renaming at some stage.

Thanks so much. I wouldn't have even thought of that.
This will save me a lot of rendering time now

                  Appreciate all your help.
