  • Problem and solution for V-Ray error: [VFBCore::SetRegion] Error writing render

My render manager was giving me his error at the end of its job:

    [2013/Nov/13|12:48:02] V-Ray: (Estimated time remaining: 0h 17m 23.5s): 90 % completed
[2013/Nov/13|12:48:28] V-Ray error: [VFBCore::SetRegion] Error writing render region to raw image file.
Error: [VFBCore::SetRegion] Error writing render region to raw image file.

The problem was that it was overwriting an older file at the end of the process.

So to get around this is to have a fresh file name .
Easy but cost me a heavy render.

    Solved!

That's odd, we need to check it out.

I have seen this error a handful of times now that I've switched from tga to multichannel exr's

I don't know if it's necessarily because there was an existing file there. Although I have had similar issues and felt that clearing out the old files helped get the rendering back on track. Here's my own issue with rendering multichannel EXRs to a network drive... looking through my log file, it's hit or miss that sometimes the render throws up this error. Most of the other times it only happens once and it renders successfully the second time.

Third time was the charm in this case. Seems to just be something finicky with saving EXR's on the network. Vlado has mentioned improvements with saving EXR's with Vray 3.0 - I haven't seen the error yet with the beta.

What is the render-manager and which versions are Vray,Max and render-manager ?
What file format you are trying to output ?
Output path is on a local drive or network location ?
Any specific steps how to reproduce the issue here ?

        Similar questions here:
What is the render manager ?
Does the issue persist when output path is local drive ?
It happens only with EXR-files or with other file-formats too ?
Any specific steps to reproduce it in our environment ?

Thank you very much in advance.
