  • baking lightmaps in vray - intersecting ojects - black bleeding

    Hello!

i have a general question about baking. in my scenes there are always a lot of objects intersecting with each other. i like this kind of modelling style because it is very quick and flexible. when i render a still image everything looks nice. Bu now the baking comes into the game... when i bake such a scene (for example an interior scene) i have some kind of dirty black bleeding in the corners of my rooms and everywhere where some objects are intersecting. i discoverd when i would model without intersections this problem is solved...

as you can see in my sample image i made two objects - one is modelled as an single object and the other consist of two boxes. when i render them they look the same but when i bake them i get this black bleeding...

i think this is a general problem in the baking process...

i was wondering if there is some solution to solve this kind of problem?

    thx for the help!

    Hi,

Those black edges over the intersected areas are visible due to the image filtering. The rendering/baking process produces an image (bake map), which is filtered automatically by 3DS Max.

You can try few option to avoid or decrease the issue.
    *) refine the scene geometry
*) render your maps on high resolution, increased padding option and disable the filtering of the baked map before render it.
*) add an edge where the geometry intersects and remove the UVs on the inner part.
