  • serious issues when rendering normal channel

I'm trying to render an animated water surface created with HOT to a normal map to re-tile & loop, but the normal map vray is rendering is producing weird splotches with floating point number errors. Neither scanline or MR can can render normal channels so i've got no workaround either.

The orange bits have a blue value of 1.592564e-005, compared to everywhere else having one of near 1. The patches randomly jump around in position each frame with seemingly no pattern, but each frame I go back to is the same.

The scene is fresh, no lights, top down orthographic, tried messing around with color mapping and clamping and i'm stumped. it's properly broken - i've rendered normal maps out like this countless times and never seen this before.

If I collapse the mesh to an edit poly (removing the HOT plugin) they are still there.
e: there's no aa on these areas either, they're solid pixels no matter the AA settings.
